Description:

Who we are: The Waller Center is an urban retreat and community center managed by the Board of Camping and Retreat Ministries of the California-Nevada Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. Our mission is to care for the human needs of our visitors and neighbors by engaging church and community to build a just, sustainable world. What we do: We provide safe, affordable accommodations and meeting space for charitable non-profit, faith-based, and community groups. We invest in long-term movements for social justice and environmental sustainability through our community events and our seminar program. Groups whom we host at our facility include college community service teams, church youth groups, a community bell choir, and the Haight-Ashbury Food Program. Why we do what we do: The Waller Center is a ministry of The United Methodist Church, and we take seriously the Christian call to care for our neighbors. We believe that following Christ means feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, welcoming the stranger, and looking after those who are sick or in prison (Matthew 25:34-46). We believe that we are missing the point of the gospel if it is not good news for the poor (Luke 4:18), concern for those who mourn, and justice for the oppressed (Isaiah 61:1-3). While we are happy to talk more about United Methodist theology if asked, the Waller Center does not otherwise discuss religion with visiting groups. Our facility is open to non-profit and community groups regardless of religious affiliation.
