About Waitomo News

The Waitomo News is delivered free to more than 7500 households and businesses on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is the only newspaper many households in the Otorohanga and Waitomo districts receive. We have more than 20,000 readers because our news is about them. We are the only regular source of local news and advertising information - in their homes. And we are online for the lucky ones that do have good rural internet access, as well as those with ties to our region, but who live in all parts of the globe. Our readers are small town New Zealanders - 'salt of the earth' rural people. People who buy goods and services, travel, love great food and wine, go to concerts and events... everything big city people do... and they love choice when they shop. Based in the heart of one of New Zealand's strongest dairy and drystock farming regions, it is a community paper with a long history that's very proud of its rural roots. Based in the heart of one of New Zealand's strongest dairy and drystock farming regions, it is a community paper with a long history that's very proud of its rural roots. The Waitomo News is the result of a merger in 1980 between Te Kuiti's King Country Chronicle (established in 1906) and the Otorohanga Times (established in 1912). Both papers were owned and managed by the Craig family. In 2002, the paper was bought by the Spring family and is now part of a privately-owned group of newspapers that includes The Beacon (Whakatane), Eastern Bay Life (eastern Bay of Plenty) and Opotiki News. We're award-winning - including best all round community newspaper awards in our class - plus the many we've had over the years as a team and individually. A long-standing member of the NZ Community Newspapers Association, the Waitomo News has two offices in Te Kuiti and Otorohanga.Read More
