But, our offering only begins with the products. Personal customer service is the cornerstone of our business and is included with every purchase. Our team is committed to a successful election for every customer, every time. In 1990, David and Jane Watson set out to make election management software affordable for more counties in the state of Florida. They designed a software package and incorporated VR Systems in 1992. The company sold its first system to Leon County in 1993. With each election, the list of counties using VR Systems software grew steadily. Supervisors throughout the state were now able to conduct successful elections with accessible and easy to use software. In 2004, Hurricane Charley struck Charlotte County, Florida, which displaced many voters and rendered polling places unavailable. The Department of State asked VR Systems to put together an electronic poll book system that enabled voters to check in and cast their ballots without long lines. The ideas generated from that experience were patented and developed into the EViD Electronic Voter Identification system. Today, that system is used in over 50 counties. From 2003 through 2007, the voter registration and election management software was installed in some of the largest counties in Florida, including Broward and Miami Dade Counties, each with over a million registered voters.
