Aftab Group of Companies has a long successful business history, and has made a name for itself in the FMCG market in Pakistan. The first of its group of companies was established in 1948, did business in Coal, Charcoal and Metallurgical Coke. In the 70's they ventured into production of "Shama" and "Tanga" matches. In 1984, (Late) Mr. Khawaja Afta... b Ahmed, took the safety match production a step further and founded M/S Fazal Sons Match Industries (Pvt.) Ltd. And introduced the wooden safety matches, with the brand name "Hockey". The brand 'Hockey' has gained eminent success due to its consistent quality and unmatchable services, and has remained unbeatable in the domestic market to this day. In 2003, the company further diversified with the launch of product "Signature" under M/S Aftab Sons Writing Instrument Industries, a stationary manufacturing company. The continued positive customer feedback for Signature stationary encouraged the company to expand its product line. While the company has been lucky in taking the right business decisions at the right time, much strategic research and planning has also been at the back of it. Keeping up with that track record, the company observed in 2012 that retail branding was a trending business with a great growth potential.
