VNSS

Visiting Nurse Service System, Inc. (VNSS) is a non-profit community-based organization that can trace its South Jersey roots back to 1903. The Visiting Nurse Association, a division of VNSS began in Haddonfield, NJ in 1903 and was called "The Loving Service. In 1939, the organization changed its name to the Haddonfield Visiting Nurse Association.... In 1966 the respective Boards of the Haddonfield Visiting Nurse Association and the Collingswood Nursing Services merged to form Community Health and Nursing Services of Greater Camden County, Inc. (CHANS). In 1916 the Visiting Nurse Association of the City of Woodbury was formed and in 1951 was renamed Visiting Nurse Association of Gloucester County. In keeping with still more service diversification, the organization adopted the name Visiting Nurse Home Care and Health Service, Inc. (VNHCHSI) in 1984 and established its offices in Deptford. The respective Boards of CHANS and VNHCHSI determined that these two independent, certified agencies would benefit from a more formal affiliation. The merger became official on January 1, 1991, and the organization was renamed Visiting Nurse Association of Southern New Jersey. In 1992, VNASNJ relocated its headquarters to Runnemede, NJ. In 1998 VNSS expanded its service area and merged with Visiting Nurse Health Services, which consisted of Tri County VNA, established in 1894, (Plainfield), Greater Monmouth VNA (Long Branch), Visiting Nurse Affiliate (Elizabeth) and Visiting Home Care, Inc. (Cranford). The combined organizations covered the counties of Union, Middlesex, Somerset and Monmouth. The patients served range from very young children on through to the elderly. Our capability in terms of the range of care provided has also grown. High-tech care in the home, no longer limited to the hospital environment, is now commonplace. Specialty areas in nursing such as Maternal/Child Health, Wound Care and Mental Health are now staffed by nurses with expertise in those fields.
