To reduce costs and remain competitive in the future, Viva Medicare saw a need to increase plan premium in some counties to their most popular plan, Viva Medicare Plus. In addition, Viva Medicare increased the Primary Care Physician copay on some of their plans while their competitors such as Humana, Blue Cross and HealthSpring, was able to offer reduced or $0 PCP copays and lower out-of-pocket deductibles. It became clear that in 2015 Viva Medicare was going to face an enrollment challenge. With the increased plan costs and weaker by comparison benefit offerings, Viva Medicare needed a creative strategy that focused on retention and value added benefits while positioning Viva Medicare as the best option for Alabama Medicare beneficiaries. The Membership has its Perks campaign delivered more than Viva could imagine. While their internal goal was to enroll 1,500 new members between Oct 15 - Dec, 7, the campaign brought in nearly 2,500 new members - which translates to $55 million dollars more than what they were expecting.
