About Vitsoe
Vits" was founded in 1959 in Germany by the Dane, Niels Vits" (1913-1995). The 606 Universal Shelving System was designed by Dieter Rams (b 1932) in 1960 and has been produced continuously by Vits" ever since. Influential New York retailer Murray Moss - with whom Vits" has worked since 1998 - described the system as "one of the great icons of twentieth century rational design." Dieter Rams has worked with Vits" throughout, and continues to do so to this day. Rams joined Braun's design department in 1955 and was responsible with Hans Gugelot for the design of the seminal Phonosuper SK4 ("Snow White's Coffin") in 1956. He was head of design at Braun from 1961 to 1995. Since 1995, Vits" and all of its production have been based in the United Kingdom.Explore more
