Internet worm viruses have hit thousands of systems. Many people are being bombarded with emails or receiving notices that they have activated a virus. Many of the viruses have the ability to 'spoof' the From field. When activated on someone's computer, it picks 2 email addresses from the address book or elsewhere on the computer, puts one name in the From field and one in the To field and sends the message with the virus payload attached. Adware is a software application that displays pop-up ads or ad banners while the program is running. Adware writers include code in the application that also tracks a user's personal information and passes it on to third parties without your consent or knowledge. Spyware is a similar software application that gathers information about a person without their knowledge or consent and relays it to advertisers and other interested parties.
