VinaSource is a boutique software development outsourcing company based out of Seattle, WA and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The company was founded by Microsoft Alumni David Hajdu and Benjamin Liu who recognized a distinct need for cost-effective and high quality software development. After evaluating various international communities and regions, we... decided on Vietnam due to its unique balance of development cost, talent, experience and IT infrastructure. After research and discussions with numerous companies ranging from startups to Fortune 500 companies, we discovered a recurring dissatisfaction among companies who had previously outsourced development work to other companies. Two common themes became apparent. First, traditional outsourcing hotbeds such as India's pricing have increased dramatically in the past 10 years, significantly decreasing the value proposition. Second, communication issues, caused by differences in language, culture, and timezones resulted in poor quality and missed deadlines. At VinaSource, we resolved these issues by using a "hybrid" model of outsourcing. Each client is assigned a US based program manager who is available during normal US business hours for face to face meetings and immediate communication. In addition, all of our program managers based in Vietnam are hired from Singapore Universities and speak fluent English. Finally, our staff are continually trained to meet and exceed higher US quality standards and expectations - a vital part of successful outsourcing as international standards are often more lenient than in the United States. We recognize there are inherent challenges to outsourcing, but with successful communication, refined processes, and determined self-inspection, we have created a formula for outsourcing success.
