Players in the ECHL come primarily from the three Major Junior leagues in Canada, US Colleges and other professional teams. Additionally European born players also make up a recognizable component of many team rosters. ECHL players... average 24 years of age and the vast majority of players are under the age of 27. Over 60% of the league is made up of Canadian born players. Many ECHL teams also carry a number of players owned by higher level (American Hockey League, National Hockey League) affiliate clubs and placed with ECHL teams to further their development as professionals. The Victoria Salmon Kings became an affiliate of the National Hockey League's Vancouver Canucks and the American Hockey League's Manitoba Moose on July 18, 2006. The Victoria Salmon Kings are coached by Mark Morrison, who joined as an Assistant Coach in 2005 and was named Head Coach on December 28, 2006. The club made its first ECHL playoff appearance in 2007 after finishing seventh in the National Conference (third in the West Division).Read More
