But the enterprises commitment goes beyond the search for excellence in the final product. Respecting the environment, generating job and income to local communities, promoting improved life quality to the population, and generating development while following sustainability principles are the targets of Veracel. The companys forestry and industrial operations are certified by major assessment bodies for standards in compliance with the Brazilian Forestry Code, the laws protecting the Atlantic Forest, and the environmental law. The history of this company with roots in Bahia started shortly before 2005, when Veracruz Florestal, then an Odebrecht subsidiary, started acquiring land in the region, as early as in 1991. The first eucalyptus seedlings started to be planted in that year. In 1996, Veracel was granted the environmental license for the pulp mill project. Two years later, in 1998, it became Veracel Celulose S/A and, with this, the Veracel Station Private Reserve of Natural Heritage (RPPN) was born with 6,069 hectares of preserved native forest.Read More
