Barnaby Garrood (left) and John Buckley (right) have 30 years of combined experience as Formula One aerodynamicists, where they have used wind-tunnel, track, and computation testing methods to refine their designs. They founded Velosense to create a new technology in airspeed, wind and atmospheric measurement. John and Barney both spent their early... careers working in motorsport and Formula 1. They first worked together on the Front Wing of the World Championship Winning Brawn GP car and since then they have collaborated on several other motorsport projects, working on multiple F1 World Championship, Indy 500, and Le Mans winners. As keen cyclists trying to improve their aerodynamics, Barney and John wondered if with the emergence of microsensors (such as barometers and accelerometers seen in mobile phones) they could create a device to that would measure drag on the road without the need for a windtunnel. John and Barney started with the latest probe technology from Formula 1 but quickly realised that the aerodynamic measurement challenge was greater in cycling. After 3 years of development they patented a unique probe design which enables accurate measurement of wind speed and yaw angles typically encountered by road cyclists.
