Valley View Villa

The Riverton Guest Home Corporation operates Valley View Villa, incorporated under the Municipal Housing Act of Nova Scotia on March 30, 1974. Prior to constructing the new facility, the Corporation operated the Pictou County Home for the Aged for almost one hundred years. Since its official opening on January 16, 1978, Valley View Villa has contin... ued to develop in response to the long-term care needs of an expanding population of seniors. In 1986, a twenty-unit Enriched Housing Facility, known as Haven Brook Manor, was constructed adjacent to the main building. This was developed in cooperation with the Nova Scotia Housing Authority, which operates several similar facilities throughout Nova Scotia. In partnership with the Housing Authority, Valley View Villa provides essential services to enable tenants of this facility to maintain an independent life-style within a supervised, yet self-contained, apartment-style dwelling. In 1990, the main building was expanded to include an additional nineteen beds (Oak Wing). Currently, Valley View Villa maintains a total of 112 Level I & II long-term care beds, along with one short-term respite care bed. Valley View Villa, operated by The Riverton Guest Home Corporation, is a Municipal Owned Home for Special Care, operated by a municipally appointed Board of Governors. The Boards primary responsibility is to ensure that this facility operates in accordance with regulations made under the Homes for Special Care Act of Nova Scotia, as well as other applicable legislation.
