Under Pressure

The Under Pressure Graffiti Festival was founded in 1996 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Behind the concept were Montreal graffiti writers Seaz and Flow who felt there was a need for a publically accessible event to help change how graffiti was perceived. Montreal had its brand new movement but at that time only city politicians and other authority fi... gures were able to give their perspective on the matter in the media. As a result, graffiti writers were constantly being portrayed as criminals, vandals and gang members. Under Pressure has enabled the curious passers-by to inform themselves on the so-called masked vandals, showing that in reality, these individuals were and still are our sons and daughters, nieces and nephews, community members, students, adults and the kids next door. The beauty of this movement is that there are so many different reasons that individuals are involved in graffiti and urban culture.
