The Path to the Pulitzer Prize Taken by Susanne Craig, University of Calgary Alumnus How, exactly, does a UCalgary poli-sci student go from toiling at The Gauntlet, the University of Calgarys student newspaper to winning a Pulitzer Prize for reporting at the New York Times? Thats the question that Deb Cummings, editor of UCalgary Magazine, asks and... answers in the Fall/Winter 2019 issue when she features Susanne Craig, BA91, Hon. LLD19, who was awarded a 2019 Pulitzer Prize for reporting on Trumps tax returns. Laurel Gregory is the founder, host and producer of Global Edmontons Family Matters. Each week, she engages the experts and interviews parents to help families navigate every stage of child rearing from baby to toddlers to young adults, baby boomers beyond. She spearheaded the cross-country series launched in 2016 after a decade of reporting daily news across the Prairies. Some of her career highlights include covering the Slave Lake wild fires, the Southern Alberta Flood, as well as traveling to Liberia, and West Africa. At the end of January 2020, the Edmonton Jewish News and the Calgary-based Jewish Free Press morphed into one provincial community newspaper: the Alberta Jewish News with the mother and son team that has been publishing the Edmonton-based monthly newspaper for years taking over the publishing duties for both. Its been such a wonderful few months for Holger Petersen who celebrated 50 years on our airwaves this past fall.The celebrations have continued into 2020 for the host of CKUAs Natchl Blues, Canadas longest-running blues program. This January, at a ceremony in New Orleans, Folk Alliance International inducted Petersen into the Folk DJ Hall of Fame. Its one thing to be notified that youre to receive such an honour but quite another to actually be on stage before your peers, in Louisiana no less, to accept it.
