About UBC Rapid
UBC Rapid is a student team participating in development of the RepRap project. The "UBC" in UBC Rapid stands for the University of British Columbia. UBC Rapid aims to create a rapid prototyping machine that rivals or exceeds the print speed and quality of commercial versions, for a fraction of the cost. In doing so, UBC Rapid is competing for the Kartik M. Gada Personal Manufacturing Prize as a long term goal. Our team of roughly 10 students is highly innovative and has already identified several novel manufacturing techniques to achieve this ambitious target. UBC Rapid intends to manage the machines that it develops, in order to provide a non-profit 3D printing service to UBC students and faculty. Access to low-cost prototyping would be of great benefit to UBC labs; for example, fabrication of custom mounts for eye-tracking cameras for neuroscience experiments can be done in a few hours, rather than weeks.
