We are Transport Workers Union, Local 527. We are employees of Johnson Controls, Inc.'s Fort Gordon, Georgia Support Project and J and J Maintenance at Fort Gordon's Eisenhower Medical Center. We are the travel clerks, supply specialists, crafts people, grounds keepers, and electronic technicians that maintain the infrastructure of the Army's Signa... l Center. TWU Local 527 received its charter on 1 April, 1997. After many months organizing the employees, Mr. Bill Wells, the local's first president, accepted the charter from International Vice President, George Roberts. The purpose of our organization is to unite all workers and to establish through collective bargaining appropriate wages standards and a work environment that is safe and fairly administered. We work to secure legislation safeguarding the economic security and social welfare of our workers, while working to protect and extend our democratic institutions and civil rights and liberties and this to perpetuate the cherished traditions of our democracy.
