About TutuDesk
We provide portable school desks (known as Tutudesks) to children in Sub Saharan Africa. At present, over 95 million school children in Sub Saharan Africa don't have the benefit of a classroom desk (worldwide, it's estimated at over 400m). This affects the development of the child's literacy and academic performance, as well as their ability to concentrate in class. Imagine trying to concentrate on writing a story, or completing some maths problems whilst balancing a book on your knee, a classmate's back or a dusty floor... a flat writing surface would make things easier for you. Tutudesks are manufactured in South Africa and distribution is handled through partners such as World Vision. Funding for the desks mainly comes from sponsors who imprint the top of the desks with their messaging, using it as a unique way to engage with local communities.
