Tumwater Drilling & Pump

Tumwater Drilling and Pump Inc. was started by Steve and Cherie Ballew in 1974. Upon serving four years with the US Army in Viet Nam, Steve purchased a cable tool drill rig and his drilling company was born in their back yard. Cherie carried out all of the administrative tasks from the home office located in the basement of their home. In 1981 Bret... t Phythian was hired as the lead well driller and has been drilling ever since. In 1986 in order to keep up with the well drilling industry, Tumwater Drilling and Pump Inc. invested in a state of the art Schramm air rotary drill rig. Over the next 20 years Tumwater has consistently upgraded and in 2009 Tumwater Drilling purchased their current drill rig which is a 2009 Schramm T450 Air Rotary and a 2009 1,000 gallon flatbed support rig. In 1999,Tumwater Drilling moved to its current location at 9290 Hwy 2 in Dryden, Washington. This new location is easily accessed off of Hwy 2 and provides a shop, office space and a retail store. By this time Tumwater added two hoist trucks for pump installations and a water treatment vehicle. This large amount of growth was due to hard work, honest and fair business practices and superior customer service. In 2001, Tumwater Drilling hired Tim Tucker as the office manager and water Treatment specialist. He is a certified Water Treatment Specialist Level II. Tim is also a US Army Veteran and after active duty service he received training as a water treatment specialist in the US Army Reserves. In 2006, Steve and Cherie's son Lance Ballew left a successful career in California to return to the family business and to run the Pump Division. All of our employees are currently licensed with the Washington state Department of Ecology forwater well drilling in Moses Lake, Ellensburg, Leavenworth and surrounding areas. They are also licensed with the Washington State Labor and Industries for Domestic pump installation and service.
