Trinity Medical Center is the only hospital and trauma center located between Houston and Austin on U. S. Highway 290. Trinity is designated a Level III Trauma Center by the Texas Dept of Health. It is a member of the Association of Texas Hospitals and Health Care Organizations, the Texas Organization of Rural and Community Hospitals (TORCH), the Catholic Hospital Association, and is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO). Residents from Washington County and the seven contiguous counties of Waller, Austin, Colorado, Fayette, Grimes and Burleson benefit from the services of Trinity. Seven of the counties have been designated as Medically Underserved Areas (MUA's) by the Texas Dept of Health (TDH). One has a partial designation. Four of the eight have also been designated as Health Professional Shortage Areas, and one county has a partial designation. Population data available on the DSHS website indicate that the area is continuing to grow and reports the eight county area population as 194,329.
