Triangle Chapter

As many of you may know, the Penn State Alumni Association created the Group of Distinction program many years ago to recognize those chapters, societies, and alumni interest groups (AIGs) which are excelling in their engagement with alumni. Our Chapter has won this award numerous times. A few years ago, they refined the program to include three ti... ers of awards: Lion, Laurel, and Elm. The Elm level is the highest level, and reflects that an alumni group has programs aimed at each of 15 categories that the Alumni Association has identified as goals. Among these are student interactions, social activities, communications, community service, participation in THON activities, contributions to endowments, etc. Last year, only 30 groups achieved the Elm level, which recognizes groups with activities in at least 14 of the 15 categories. It is my great pleasure to inform you that the Triangle Chapter has, for the third consecutive year, achieved the Elm level Group of Distinction award. This is by no means a small feat, and it entitles our Chapter to certain recognition and privileges, most notably entry into a drawing for a $1000 award toward a program or initiative of our choice. It's a testament to the involvement our alumni, and to the wonderful dedication shown by your board of directors and the volunteers who help to organize these events that we were able to not only win this award, but do so in three consecutive years. The board members wish to thank you, the Chapter members, for coming out to participate in so many of our events, and we look forward to offering even more great events to bring Penn Staters together in the Research Triangle and surrounding areas. We are continuing our efforts to ensure that we will achieve this award for a fourth consecutive year, and be part of a fraternity of groups to achieve the Elm level award every year since its inception.
