Thornton Friends School

We are a small school , a very small school. Our facility is small, and no one ever gets lost here. Everyone knows each other, and there is a surprising amount of respect among students, even though they are incredibly diverse in background, interests, skills, strengths, and gifts. We are protective of our close community , students and teachers wo... rk together every day to make our school safe and welcoming for every student and adult who comes to our school. Our goal as a Quaker middle school is to create a place where we can see and honor the Light in one another, teachers and students alike. From our small school, we look out into the community and the world. And we go into that community and world, too. We have wonderful school buses and they take us to many places in the D.C. area where we learn, serve the community, exercise, play sports, and relax and enjoy each other. Almost every class goes on a fieldtrip as part of its curriculum. At least twice a year the whole school goes on an overnight camping trip, and we have other overnight trips to the Chesapeake Bay and other areas as well. But even more than going on fieldtrips, we engage the truth about the events of the world, whether they are wonderful or very difficult.
