The Williams-Gray

The Williams-Gray Company was founded in Chicago, IL on January 1, 1906 by Ernest H. Williams and John F. Gray. Since its inception, the Company has limited its sales and service to the pulp and paper industry. We continue that focused vision today. Williams-Gray is one of the oldest companies in the world with continued service to the pulp and pap... er industry. It remains a charter member of PIMA - one of the original management organizations in the industry. In 1906, the US Pulp and Paper industry was located primarily in the Great Lakes region and the early days of the Company were spent servicing paper mills that could be covered by automobile or train from Chicago. When the paper industry expanded into the southern US, Williams-Gray moved with it. With its abundant forests of fast-growing southern pine, the availability of natural gas and the small rural areas that would embrace new industry, the success of the first southern US mills constructed in the 1920's confirmed that much of the future growth in the pulp and paper industry would take place in the south. In 1929, the Company hired its first representative to cover the southern mills. This expansion across the south became so complete that in 1976, Williams-Gray had moved its headquarters from The Williams-Gray Building in Mount Prospect, IL to Pensacola, FL where it remains today. The coverage model has expanded from the Canadian border to the Gulf of Mexico and across to the South Atlantic states. As Williams-Gray observes its Centennial anniversary, we continue our legacy of providing outstanding sales and service focused on the pulp and paper industry. The six partners that comprise The Williams-Gray of today have over 150 years of combined experience in our industry.
