The center of the cross accentuates spending quality time in study, prayer and fellowship with God because He is our first priority. The vertical crossbar represents our relationship with God and all things spiritual. The horizontal crossbar symbolizes our relationship with others and earthly things. Matthew 16:24 states: Then said Jesus unto his disciples, "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me."(NASB) In order to have a healthy horizontal life, we must have a strong "Vertical" commitment, connection and relationship with God.
