The Turning Point Trust

Turning Point was founded by Jon and Jo Parsons in 2002. They had visited Kibera as part of a short term mission project, and identified a group of children who were being drawn to life on the streets, or in danger of this. Feeling a call from God to this work, they established Turning Point as a UK charity in 2002. Our first centre was established... in Mashimoni within Kibera and began work in March 2003. Initially we were providing a basic feeding programme and working with the local slum church. Over time, this centre has grown and from it we now support around 300 children. The scope of the work has expanded to include helping with access to school, vocational training, basic healthcare, play and social, emotional and spiritual support. Our second centre in Kianda, at the other end of Kibera, was opened in 2009. In 2007 we started a micro-finance programmeaimed at helping parents provide for their children. This has now grown to serve over 200 parents and operates from both our Mashimoni and Kianda centres. Also in 2007 we acquired land in Kingangop for our Farm Project. his has the aim of giving single mums and their children the chance to escape the harsh realities of slum life and become independent through learning to farm some land.
