The Really Neet Project

The Really NEET Project was founded to meet the unique needs of NEET young people (aged 16-25) to learn in a supportive and specially tailored environment. Our projects are about much more than simply getting a job or passing a course; we hope to empower positive change in young people by giving them the tools to create stability and security in th... eir lives that will enable them to achieve their future goals and become contributing members of wider society. This is our Theory of Change Model this explains the work we do and the outcomes we achieve. We are an Award-winning South Yorkshire based Social Enterprise working with some of societys most vulnerable young people. Sophie Maxwell (our founder) set up the project due to her own life experiences (dropping out of school, domestic violence and homelessness) leading to her wanting to set up a college for young people who had been through similar circumstances to her, ensuring they had the right kind of support in place at such a crucial age enabling them to achieve their dreams despite their challenges. We came from humble beginnings teaching excluded students out of a room in a warehouse with limited resources to having 3 centres across South Yorkshire and London reaching out to over 160 young people every year. We have developed a strong track record for reducing the proportion of South Yorkshires 16-24 NEET population after identifying a lack of mainstream provision to engage and retain a small but significant cohort of vulnerable young people who were furthest from the labour market. Given the positive impact we have had on reducing the number of NEET young people in South Yorkshire we have been asked to contribute to major National and International events and we now have programmes in Rotherham, Barnsley and London.
