The Original Playhouse

Established in 2013. The Original Playhouse specializes in creating a playful environment for adults to bring children ages 2-10 for hands on discovery and simple fun via imagination and multi-sensory activities. In an age where preschools are evaluated on academic achievement as opposed to their creativity quotient, the playhouse offers a refreshing invitation to "come play" the original way! Your kids will thank you. Einstein said it best: "Imagination is more important than knowledge". The Original Playhouse promotes and maintains a love for curiosity, divergent thinking, and self-discovery. It was a fall day in 2012 when I took my daughter to a children's museum in Gettysburg. As a teacher of 17 years, I was beginning to get worn down from all the "academic rigor" placed upon young children . We entered the museum and I saw children fully engaged in costumed role-playing, others working together to design and build a marble ramp, oohs and ahhs from a boy raising a giant bubble around himself, and a few more giggling at the mice discussing their observations. All this experiential learning through play left me in wonder. As I drove home to Frederick, I realized I wanted to open my own children's museum for our community. I wanted to offer this same opportunity for children to build their imaginations, play together, enrich their minds and invite grown-ups into their beautiful worlds.
