The Narrative Method

The Narrative Method offers ongoing programs that increase participants' empathy and expand their perspectives. Workshops serve veterans, youth, men and women struggling with poverty, homelessness, PTSD, substance abuse, and the cycle of violence and incarcerations. In 1999, Ms. Foos founded the Bridge Program at Antioch University Los Angeles, an accredited university humanities program provided free for adults without access to higher education. She is an adjunct faculty member at Antioch, teaching The Narrative Method to both undergraduates and Bridge alumni. Ms. Foos is a judge for The Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism in Medicine Contest (2013- Present), and facilitates roundtable discussions with authors for The Luncheon Society in New York and Los Angeles since 2012. Foos maintains a private psychotherapy practice, seeing individuals, couples and adolescents. Prior to becoming a therapist, Foos was a television and radio writer, guerilla improv artist, comedienne and host of hundreds of cutting edge salons and events, bringing together artistic and intellectual communities for entertainment and creative dialogue. She has also been a contributor to The Huffington Post and The L.A. Weekly. Shari serves on the boards of Coalition for Engaged Education, and City Kids Foundation. She previously served for Breastcancer.org, and is a co-founder of IKAR LA. Ms. Foos earned a Master of Science degree in Narrative Medicine from Columbia University, (2012) and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University Los Angeles (1997).
