What are the requriements for obtaining a license or certificate in mediation in my state? The answer is that it depends on your state. There is no national standard that determines licensing, certification or accreditation and very few states have adopted their own specifications. Many programs run by city, county or state governments, or local court systems have their own individual requriements. Most entities require a 40-hour basic training. Our 40-hour course for beginners called Mediation for Professionals meets this requirement. To see if our course is applicable to your locality, you will need to research local requirements. What trainings are available for employees who will not be mediating but need more effective communication skills? Our 40-hour course, Mediation for Professionals, is useful for all employees, whether they plan on becoming workplace mediators or not. This course emphasizes skills critical to effective communication such as reflective listening; acknowledgment; reframing; issue clarification and de-escalation as they apply to the workplace environment. While mediation is certainly a process of conflict resolution, mediation skills are also necessary to achieve effective facilitation of collaborative efforts and meaningful communication.
