We track and support students who have Communication and Interaction difficulties ((ASD/BESD/SLCN), Cognition and Learning Difficulties (Including Specific Learning Difficulties), BESD and Sensory and/or physical impairment. Following stringent assessments we provide advice and support to colleagues to allow each SEN student to achieve their potential and have enjoyed particular success with GCSE intervention groups and reading recovery groups in KS3. We have 18 students with a statement of Special Educational Needs in mainstream classes and a further twelve students who belong to our Scott Centre and participate in as much of each school day as is appropriate. Parents who are considering TLA for a child with a statement of special educational need are welcome to contact the academy to arrange a visit and to meet one of our specialist staff. Use of Pupil Premium: This grant is to help address inequalities between just over 300 students at TLA such as those eligible for free school meals or children in care and the other 1400 who are less likely to be at a disadvantage. In 2012/13 we invested £213,000 in pastoral support, additional learning support, reading, extra support in English, maths and science (a special focus), off-site provision where appropriate, staff training and help with the cost of uniform. The Pupil Premium for Looked After Children is spent depending on the individual education needs identified at review meetings every 6 months.
