The Larkin Center

As many of you know, a press release was published last week on the closing of one of Elgin's oldest social service organizations, The Larkin Center. It doesn't surprise us that so many people have reached out to ask what they can do and more importantly what's going to happen to our clients. We have many people who have offered their time and expe... rtise in the transitional phase to ensure this change will be the easiest as possible for both our clients and staff. Lawrence Hall Youth Services who has provided quality care to children and families since 1865 will be caring for all clients in our Residential/Group Home Program as well as our Transitional Skills Center Program and our Therapeutic Day School. The Ecker Center for Mental Health who has provided outpatient mental health services to adults and their families since 1955 will be caring for clients in our Adult Programs. The only remaining program to be transferred is our Community Counseling and Services Program. We have begun working with several agencies to create a possible solution to transfer our contract and services for this program. The welfare and continuity of care for our community counseling clients is our priority moving forward. We are thankful these organizations are able to provide the continuation of care for clients without interruption and employment for approximately one-third of our former employees. We have been privileged to work along side a community who has embraced our mission and has given those suffering clients with nowhere else to turn, solace and a sense of belonging.
