The full text of The Canadian Encyclopedia and its related resources has been made available online by the Historica Foundation as a public service since 1999. Since its publication in book form in 1985, The Canadian Encyclopedia has provided the most comprehensive, objective and accurate source of information on Canada for students, readers and sc... holars across Canada and throughout the world. As a first source for information on all Canadian topics The Canadian Encyclopedia has continued to grow through several iterations in print and on CD-ROM, culminating in this online version published by the Historica Foundation. Throughout the last 30 years, which have witnessed nothing less than a revolution in the manner in which we seek, find and use information, the editorial team led by James H. Marsh has remained dedicated to the highest standards of objectivity and editorial integrity. More than 5000 scholars and specialists from every discipline and from every region of Canada have generously contributed their expertise. The resulting compendium provides the most detailed portrait of the nation and its complex identity ever attempted. The Canadian Encyclopedia first appeared as a three-volume printed set under the editorial direction of James H. Marsh in 1985, with a second four-volume set following in 1988. The Junior (now Youth) Encyclopedia of Canada was printed in 1990 and numerous versions of both encyclopedias appeared on CD-ROM throughout the 1990s. The prestigious Encyclopedia of Music in Canada was incorporated into the online encyclopedia in 2002. The Junior Encyclopedia of Canada (now called The Youth Encyclopedia of Canada) was first published by Hurtig Publishers of Edmonton in five volumes in 1990 to provide Canadian information to younger readers. Its full text is now integrated into the current website and is continually updated.
