This is The Blue Building, a contemporary commercial artist-led gallery. This is The Blue Building, a contemporary commercial art gallery led by artist Emily Falencki. The Blue Building is located at 2482 Maynard Street , Halifax, Nova Scotia and would like to acknowledge that we are situated on the traditional unceded territory of the Mikmaq. With... the purchase of 2482 Maynard in November of 2019, Founder and Director, Emily Falencki set out to provide a new kind of space for the Halifax arts community. The newly renovated building provides fully accessible, affordable studio space to independent visual artists; long-term accessible space for artist-led non-profits; and a state of the art, purpose-built venue for the presentation and sale of cutting-edge contemporary art. The Blue Building gallery is this venue. The Blue Building opens collaborating with seven internationally acclaimed artists with strong ties to the Atlantic region. Falencki and these Anchor Artists will use the space to champion a wide variety of artists they wish to support and introduce to Atlantic Canada through curated exhibitions and other programming. Sharing its platform with a wide range of contemporary artists, the gallery will support all by facilitating the sale of their work. The ethos of The Blue Building is one of collaboration and excellence. The space offers new opportunities for dialogues among artists and cultural producers about the critical issues that inform their practices and our everyday lives. Contemporary art provides us with many opportunities for dialogue, it just needs a place to meet. Falencki is excited to introduce The Blue Building as one such place.Read More
