The AHS

The AHS is an association of atheist, humanist and secular student societies facilitated and supported by the British Humanist Association (BHA). Our vision is to see a thriving atheist, humanist or secular student society in every institute of Higher Education in the UK and Republic of Ireland, networked together, with a shared voice in public lif... e, whose members can contribute to and be part of the wider national and international movement. As a means of achieving its vision the AHS aims to build, support and represent atheist, humanist and secular student societies, facilitate communication between them, and encourage joint actions and ensure that their members have opportunities to be part of the wider national and international movement. The AHS is run by students for students, with an elected Executive consisting of President, Secretary and Treasurer managing a team of staff who oversee the day to day running of the organisation. The Executive are supported and advised by a Board that holds ultimate responsibility for the AHS and report to the trustees of the BHA. Each member society of the AHS puts forward two representatives to sit on the Caucus, which acts as the sovereign decision making body within the AHS electing the Exectuive, directing major policy decisions and ratifying new members. Funding for the AHS is a combination of grants, voluntary donations, surpluses generated by its activities and events as well as funds delegated by the trustees of the BHA.
