About Texas Insurance Checking Office
TICO was established in 1935 in Austin, Texas. Its purpose was to audit property insurance policies for accuracy of rate and form. In addition, TICO classified all policies per the Texas statistical plan in existence at the time. The Texas State Board of Insurance, predecessor of the TDI, used data accumulated by TICO in rate hearings and for other special reports, just as the TDI does today. Throughout the years, we have evolved from performing audit functions to coding policy information and warehousing statistical data. Even though we no longer "check" policies, our name has stayed the same. TICO is well respected throughout the Texas insurance industry for the accuracy of its data and integrity of service. We strive to provide the TDI, insurance industry and other interested parties with the most accurate and timely data possible.
