With the mission to "make communities healthier", Texas AHEC East is devoted to improving the supply, distribution, retention, and training of varied health professionals in medically under-served areas. Linking 100 East Texas counties and over 18 million people to community health workforce development, health opportunities and health resources ou... r activities and events are aligned with four major program areas: Health Careers Promotion and Preparation; The program office is located in Galveston, Texas on the campus of the University of Texas Medical Branch. We cover the area of East Texas with our eight regional offices, which are uniquely positioned within the community and are hosted by local community institutions or are non-profit organizations. We help build healthier communities with more balanced, responsive and efficient delivery systems. 60 million Americans, or nearly one in five, lack adequate access to primary care due to a shortage of primary care physicians in their communities. The rural population is one of the largest physician-underserved populations in the U.S. Economic factors, cultural and social differences, educational shortcomings, lack of recognition by legislators and the sheer isolation of living in remote rural areas all conspire to impede rural Americans in their struggle to lead a normal, healthy life.Read More
