About Terra Preta
Thousands of years ago, the indigenous population of the Amazon region found they could improve the quality of the soil by blending food scraps, ash from fires, and livestock/human waste. By blending together these waste products, they produced what would become known by the Portuguese as Terra Preta or black earth, some of the most fertile soil on the planet. This black earth enabled the flourishing of vast civilizations across the amazon basin.
