TEK-MOTIVE, INC. was founded in 1981 by a technical team whose goal was to create a friction material warehouse and custom fabricator of friction products. While the best known applications are brakes and clutches for motor vehicles, there are also many other uses, such as winches, elevators, and a variety of industrial machinery. Almost anything w... ith moving parts may utilize some type of friction material. Today, the company's primary products are disc brake pads for light and medium duty truck, as well as other applications that are generally characterized as "severe duty". In mid-1989 TEK-MOTIVE moved into a 12,000 square foot manufacturing facility in East Haven, Connecticut. In January 1990, after several months of research, development, and road testing, the first products were shipped from this facility. Later that year TEK-MOTIVE'S administrative and warehouse operations moved from West Haven, to a 14,000 square foot office/warehouse also in East Haven. In response to growing sales the office/warehouse operations were expanded and relocated to a 25,000 square foot facility at 110 Commerce Street in 1995. Five years later, the Company completed a 15,000 square foot addition to the 110 Commerce Street facility. Today the company utilizes over 50,000 square feet in the East Haven Industrial Park to meet the needs of its customers. Employment varies from 60 to 70 people from East Haven, New Haven, and the surrounding area. TEK-MOTIVE has continued to supply the highest quality friction material throughout the United States. The Industrial Division has supplied OE and service for a wide variety of customers. From elevators to winches, TEK-MOTIVE can design and fabricate to meet your friction material requirements.
