Taylor County EMS

Taylor County EMS is a non-profit community based ambulance service that provides 9-1-1 emergency medical services for rural Taylor County. Taylor County EMS is owned and operated by its members and is governed by an elected board of directors. We are members of and active participants in the Big Country Regional Advisory Council for regional traum... a care improvement and the Emergency Medical Task Force - Region 2. A lot of the medics who serve at Taylor County EMS are also members of the local volunteer fire departments who provide first responder services for us on EMS calls. This service also provides uncompensated mutual aid to other communities that request our service that lay outside our defined 9-1-1 response area. Our service responds to all 9-1-1 EMS calls in the areas of Potosi, Tuscola, Buffalo Gap, Lawn, Ovalo, Moro, View, ECCA, and Tye. We also provide stand-by EMS services for Jim Ned CISD, Wylie ISD, & McMurry University football games, the Tour de Gap, ACU's Red Dirt Challenge, Texana Ranch, and events held at the Taylor County Expo Center. The history of Taylor County EMS dates back to 1990 when a core of volunteers saw the need to improve pre-hospital care in the rural area of south Taylor County and the organization South Taylor Emergency Medical Services (STEMS) was born. Many individuals that were acutely sick or injured had to rely on personal vehicles or wait on Abilenes ambulance service to get them to the ER. Since that time STEMS has developed from a basic level of service and now offers up to Mobile Intensive Care Unit support. The first STEMS volunteers began with an old used ambulance to cover the entire response area. In 2011, STEMS took primary response duties for the rest of Taylor County outside the city limits of Abilene. In 2016, we filed an assumed name certificate and re-branded ourselves as "Taylor County EMS" to encompass the total area we serve.
