Taxolog, Inc., was co-founded in 1997 by Drs. Robert A. Holton and Lewis L. Metts. The mission of the company is to develop and commercialize unique drugs based on pharmacologically powerful taxanes for the treatment of cancer and other diseases. Taxolog, Inc., has obtained exclusive rights to the entire taxane intellectual-property portfolio of Dr. Holton, whose research at Florida State University has yielded the semi-synthetic process by which Taxol®, the first taxane anti-cancer agent, is commercially manufactured. The first successful total synthesis of Taxol, Dr. Holton's research has resulted in more than 70 patents protecting the methods of preparation, composition and use of taxanes. These analogs are new compounds, completely distinct from those already commercially marketed, and may exhibit previously unseen mechanisms of activity. Taxolog's research and development focus has been to design drugs based on these compounds that will address the shortcomings of those that are currently available to the medical community. Currently, Taxolog has many new compounds in development that exhibit outstanding preclinical activity against drug-resistant tumors. This promising data has resulted in three clinical candidates, currently in Phase I and Phase II Clinical Trials.
