Tabitha

In 1994, the Tabitha Foundation was founded in Canada to support aid efforts begun by Janne Ritskes in Cambodia. Our work focuses on the poorest of the poor in Cambodia, a country decimated by the Pol Pot regime in 1975-79 which promoted enforced starvation, mass executions and slave labour. Tabitha currently works with 125,000 people in 15 provinc... es of the country. Since 1994, Tabitha has lifted more than 4 million Cambodians out of poverty and despair, into lives of dignity, hope and active participation in their communities. The rest of the funds are forwarded to Cambodia. 92% of the funds are directed at program spending in Cambodia. 7% of the funds provide a stipend to Janne Ritskes, Tabithas founder and director, and the only Canadian working for Tabitha in Cambodia. Our mission is to enable the poorest of the poor in Cambodia to recognize and develop inherent skills and resources in a way that brings dignity and respect within the people we work with; within the country and within the world; and that will result in measurable and visible improvement in the lifestyles of the people we work with. The vision is to develop processes which will enable people to actively make their own choices and processes which will result in alleviation of poverty results which can be clearly identified and seen.
