One of the most important trends in the telecommunications market is broadband communication in high-performance networks. In the next few years, it will bring together applications in telecommunications, information technology, consumer electronics and domestic engineering. In Germany, T-Com is the decisive motor of broadband development, and in Europe it is one of the driving forces behind the expansion of this technology. By consistently basing its actions on the broadband strategy, T-Com is laying the basis for long-term growth. In 2005, T-Com was able to drive the broadband business further forward. The number of DSL connections in Germany alone, compared with year end 2004, grew by about 2,100,000 to 7.9 million (including resale of DSL upstream products of T-Com by third parties). Success until now is also the result of marketing activities by T-Com and T-Online. With about 41.2 million narrowband connections and 8.5 million broadband connections, T-Com is one of the biggest fixed network suppliers in Europe. T-Com looks after residential and small business customers in Germany, and is represented in Hungary, Macedonia and Montenegro (through Magyar Telekom), Croatia (through T-Hrvatski Telekom) and Slovakia (through Slovak Telecom). In Germany, T-Com operates one of the most modern, powerful infrastructures for fast, secure information exchange - including about 197,000 kilometers of glass fiber and an IP network based on the futuristic MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching) technology, in which a data volume of about 53,000 terabytes per month and growing is transmitted.
