In 2012 Nobel Prize-winner Daniel Kahneman wrote a book called Thinking Fast And Slow; a fascinating study of the decision-making processes of the conscious and unconscious mind. In it he describes a dual process theory of reasoning that splits human reasoning into two systems: system 1 - responsible for intuitive, unconscious reasoning and system 2 - responsible for conscious, logical reasoning.
