The South Wales Radio Control Society (of SWRCS for short) first flew at Llandow around 1963 and for many years paid a lease for the use of the runway. Then in 1984 came the chance to purchased the runway we now fly from. This opportunity was grabbed with both hands. A number of members paid a one off life membership to raise the funds. The runway... is made up of solid concrete with a tarmac top surface and is approximately 40 metres wide by 400 metres long. It is now showing its age and it is a constant problem to keep the weeds at bay! However, we still believe it is one of the best model flying sites in the country! Visitors are most welcome but please please please do not fly at our field without permission; on your own; outside our permitted times and most definitely not without the appropriate insurance cover, as we may have to live with the consequences of your actions! We have membership of 100 seniors and junior membership numbers are unlimited. This we hope will encourage younger people to join and keep the hobby alive. The club is also an affiliated member of the British Model Flying Association, ( BMFA ) the body that oversees model flying in the UK. We fly every type of model aircraft including IC, jet turbine, helicopters, scale, sports, and aerobatic types and the ever increasingly popular electric powered model aircraft. We also try and run annual Fly-Ins' (either electric or scale) inviting members from other clubs to join us at Llandow. Every summer we join together with local schools during 'Activity Week' to give pupils experience of the hobby and some basic knowledge of the theory of flight, aerodynamics and aviation. The South Wales Radio Control Society also holds regular meetings away from our runway. These take place on the first Wednesday of every month, at 8.00pm in the The Six Bells, Penmark.
