Sutton Bonington Primary School

Sutton Bonington is a community primary school for children aged 4-11. We have just over 200 children on roll, divided into 7 single-age classes. The building consists of the original village school, opened in 1909, the main site constructed in the 1960s, and additions such as a further two classrooms and new reception and office areas added in mor... e recent times. We are fortunate to have a superb rural location overlooking fields and farmland. The children have extensive grounds in which to learn and play. These include a playground, field, school garden, pond and wildlife area, adventure and tyre trails, and an outdoor learning area where children take part in a range of environmental, creative and cross-curricular activities. Children attend our school not only from Sutton Bonington itself, but also from the neighbouring catchment villages of Kingston-on-Soar, Ratcliffe-on-Soar and West Leake which are all served by our school bus service. We are also pleased to welcome many children and their families from other surrounding towns and villages including those on the other side of the nearby Leicestershire/Derbyshire border (despite our Leicestershire postcode we are within the Borough of Rushcliffe and the Nottinghamshire Local Authority). The school is at the heart of the village. We use the surrounding area as a learning resource and organise events to which the whole village is invited. We have excellent links with local Churches and a close working relationship with the Sutton Bonington Pre-School Play Group. Most of the children who attend the Play Group enrol at our school and regular visits and liaison is encouraged. We also liaise regularly with other local nursery and playgroup settings, such as those in East Leake and Kegworth, where many of our children attend. We are able to develop excellent relationships with parents and carers.
