About Surviving Social Studies
Hi! My name is Matt, and I am the face behind Surviving Social Studies. I am in my 20th year as a middle school teacher - all at the same school! Thats right, I have no idea what it is like anywhere else. When I started my teaching career I was given a textbook and a pat on the back. Teachers Pay Teachers didnt exist yet so I had to create everything I needed for class completely from scratch. Those were some VERY long days during my first few years. The constant thought of, Oh man, Ive got nothing for tomorrow! is a pretty frightening feeling to have when you know a classroom full of middle schoolers will be staring at you the next day when the bell rings...whether youre ready or not.
