Summer Haze Pottery

I have been working in clay for over 32 years and until a recent venture into Raku, I have made my living turning out the traditional line of functional gas fired stoneware mugs, bowls, pitchers, etc. And although throwing the repetition of forms on the potters wheel still very much holds the magic for me - and taking down the door on my gas kiln i... s still like Christmas - I have stepped into the world of one of a kind wheel thrown and sculptural pieces and the spontaneity and unpredictability that is the Raku firing. I began taking pottery courses at Franklin & Marshall College while pursuing a BA in Business Management which I received in 1980. I spent the next year working in the ceramics department at Towson State University. From there I attended Alfred University receiving a BFA in Ceramics in 1983. Following Alfred I worked for two seasons at the pottery shop at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA and then joined Sarah Creek Potters in Gloucester Point, VA In January of 2004 we moved to Mathews County, VA and opened our studio Summer Haze Pottery.
