About Sumer Singh Studio
Sumer Singh is a Canadian designer and Mechanical Engineer by education. He has studied at Emily Carr University in Vancouver and the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary. After working extensively in the energy and heavy machinery industries, he went back to his family roots in art and design. MTHARU, which comes from his family name, means sword hilt maker. His ancestors were blacksmiths, goldsmiths, weapon makers, ivory workers, artists, authors, poets and so on. Sumer's studio in Calgary is based on material exploration and experimentation, making the end result follow material properties and function.
