Max L. Cowen's Student Stores and Print Shop is a family owned company and is very proud to serve over 10,000 customers yearly. The late Max L. Cowen started the company by traveling to schools and entertaining them with his old vaudeville dance and strength routines. To finance his travels he brought pencils and pens to sell to the staff and stude... nts. This led to Max bringing more and more products to the school. The business grew rapidly as the product selection increased. Max started to advertise nationally with various mail order programs. In 1978, current owner, Daniel Smith started with the company printing pencils and working his way through the company eventually becoming the General Manager in 1983. Max and Dan worked together developing mail order catalogs, adding toll free ordering, faxing and websites. Max passed in 1989 and Dan continued on managing the company for Max's family and then with other business partners. Dan and his family purchased the company outright in 2015. Dan moved the company to our current building located at 9438 River Road in Marcy, NY. The building is a former Millbrook Bread distribution center and offers the space to operate the distribution center, Max's Print Shop and now a all new retail store. Today Dan runs the company with his wife Sandy and son Scott who has been with the company since he was old enough to walk! Scott manages Max's Print Shop and is very "hands-on" with all of our printing abilities and equipment. We have invested in the latest environmentally safe printing procedures that allow us to offer full color printing at one color pricing.
