Stratmoore Farms

Hi, I am Bob, and I am the manager/owner of Stratmoore Farms. Combining a concern for our food supply with a passion for farming and gardening, Stacey and I started a family garden in 2009 and added a flock of chickens for eggs in 2010. The garden has gotten bigger each year, as has the size of the laying flock. Somewhere along the way, we started... selling eggs to friends, family, and neighbors. We also raise a few goats, pigs, and donkeys, but mostly for our own entertainment. This was pretty much all my idea in the beginning, and it wasn't necessarily all that well received at the time, but Stacey is definitely supportive of the farming operation now. Together, with our son Holden and Valentine, our "un-adopted adopted son" from Guatemala, we are getting better and more productive every day. Noticing the growing number of people that are concerned with how their food is raised, and us having a desire to gravitate towards full time farming, we made a few changes for 2015. This year we have moved all of our laying flock out to pasture where we can rotationally graze them, and we have secured a local supply for non-GMO feed. These two aspects provide us with an egg that is much healthier, better nutritionally, and better tasting than anything in the grocery store. All that means that we can offer a better product to our customers. We also decided to get into pastured broilers. After reading book after book all winter, watching pretty much every related video on YouTube, attending seminars, and visiting local farms, it seemed as if spring would never get here. When spring finally arrived, we ordered two batches of broilers and began our adventure of pastured poultry. We became a weekly vendor of the Farmville Community Marketplace and quickly realized that we needed more layers. We would also need more broilers. So we significantly increased the size of our layer flock, raised and processed another batch of broilers, as well as raised a batch of fresh pastured turkeys for Thanksgiving.
